Romanticism

Romanticism caused such a schism
     Flaunting the faces of classicism
Their writers and artists and genius musicians
unveiled the dark world of witch and magician
All works had such ardor – freedom at last.
Their rebelliousness left all the “righteous” aghast!
So long had the heart been imprisoned, confined,
it exploded, rebelled at all the refined
The Byrons, the Shelleys, the Keats in full bloom
Spoke volumes on nature, on death and of doom
Yet music so soaring of Chopin and Liszt
Were notes we believe that the angels had kissed
The daring of Delacroix, Goya unpiled
revealed their art, making critics go wild
Never before had expression been brought – so
  that’s what they thought
  …then along came Picasso!
