The Mask of Jealousy

When people put you down, they’re trying to relieve
In some erroneous way, acceptance of their grief
They cannot measure up to your amazing life
And so with bitter words, recant their hidden strife
For envy is the reason, acknowledging their lack
And though the barbs do fly, we know why they attack

But living with compassion and knowing their great pain
We sacrifice rebuttal, for what is there to gain?
Does this imply we’re weak? The opposite is true
When we “turn the other cheek”, a saints reward is due
The courage of our love, when unjust insults fly
Reminds us of His Love –for our failings He did die!
